Sunday Programming
ALL NEW SCHEDULE BEGINNING EASTER SUNDAY, APRIL 8, 2012
Sunday School for children (ages 3 - high school with nursery for those under 3) will be held from 10:30 - 11:15 am between our two worship services. Junior Church (ages 4 - grade 4) will be after the Children's Chat during the early service with singing, stories and snack and will lead directly into Sunday School. Our classes feature engaging curriculum: Spark (ages 3-6, Room 4), Godly Play (ages 7-12, 3rd floor and Youth Worship (junior and senior high, Room 2) with loving and experienced teachers. A new Story Time for children age 3-6 years will be offered during the message portion of the later service. An adult Sunday School School class will continue from 11:15 - noon in Room 2.
Junior Church & Second Session Sunday School - During worship our children and youth have various activities. After the Children's Sermon during morning worship, 3 year olds through 4th grade youth go to Junior Church, grades 5-8 go to a preconfirmation class before Youth Worship. The 3 year olds through Kindergarteners participate in adult-supervised play, while our Christian Educator leads children in grades 1 through 4 in worship and fellowship. Junior Church leads directly into a learning opportunity for children: Godly Play for grades 1-4 and Sunday class for preschoolers every Sunday after worship. Children return to their parents at Bagel Fellowship. A preconfirmation survey course is offered for youth in grades 5-8 during Junior Church and leads into Youth Worship.
Youth Worship - Youth Worship meets after the sermon and plans both the Christmas Pageant and the Youth Sunday worship service in June.
Nursery - We have a staffed nursery for children up to 3 years old during worship and Sunday School every Sunday, beginning at 9:30 am.
Youth Choirs - Children and youth sing as part of Junior Church and Youth Worship to perform for worship very occasionally and at the Christmas Pageant and Youth Sunday.
Summer Youth Connection - Youth grades 7 and up meet on Sunday after worship and Thursday evenings for activities and field trips during June and July. Every year the youth (ages 14 and up) can attend a mission trip to either Bethany Beach, Appalachian region with FAST, or Stony Point, NY and NYC.
Adult Sunday School - The "Seekers Class" is a traditional Bible teaching and discussion class that delves deep into books of the Bible. This established class blends presentation with video teaching on thought-provoking topics. 9:45 - 10:45 Sunday morning in Room 2. The "Circle of the Spirit Class" uses a curriculum that encourages sharing and discussion facilitated by group members on Biblical interpretation and study. 9:30 - 10:30 2nd floor Parlor. "Spiritual Group Therapy" includes many new to the church in round table discussion of Biblically-based topics and prayer concerns. 9:45 - 10:45 in Room 1.
Adult Programming - addition to regularly scheduled Sunday morning classes, Riverdale offers midweek Bible Studies on Wednesdays at 10:30 am in Custis Hall and at 6:30 pm in the Parlor, Monday Prayer Breakfasts at Professional Coffee House on Route 1 in Hyattsville at 6:15 am and on second Mondays at 10 am at IKEA. We gather prayer requests, joys and concerns then join in Bible and devotional readings ending with prayer. All in 30 minutes!
